Backpackinging is probably the greatest sport ever!!!

As a student at Brooks Institute of Photography several years back, I found myself sorta reaching the point of burn-out! (Not a good thing when you’re trying to be creative) So, I decided it was time to take a break. At the same time, I met my now good-buddy Taylor Abeel (an amazing photographer in his own right!) We got to talking and found out that both of us had always had a dream of backpacking the John Muir Trail!!!

That was it, the perfect timing for an EPIC adventure!!! We immediately began planning our trip, researching what we would face, and buying some of the most awesome toys! – Ultralight backpacking gear!

And, to top it off, Brooks was more than happy to allow me to write my own class and do my backpacking trip as part of my studies to become a nature photographer. (nope… I never became a nature photographer, I think I found out on that trip that my future definitely didn’t have to do with growing a VERY long beard and trekking for miles at a time for a single picture)

I was reminded of all of this when I was checking out Taylor’s website the other day and saw the following picture of me:

I believe you can see more pictures from this trip by clicking here and checking out a slideshow of the pictures. (I had just discovered the “Polorizing Filter” before this trip and made the mistake of using it for EVERY picture!!)

That slideshow is awesome. I love the last shot of you guys in the bed of the truck. I plan to undertake a trip like that at some stage. Get out of the L.A. smog for a while! I don't travel enough!

  • haha... you know, that was the one and only time I EVER hitchhiked... my mom yelled at me for it, friends (mostly girls) gave me flack for it, but that was SOOOOO the perfect end to a perfect adventure!!!
